About Jack Bowman

Jack Bowman is an English drummer, producer and musical director whose work spans live performance, recording, songwriting, composition, arranging, playback and sound engineering.

His practice sits where the musical and practical sides of a project meet: understanding the intention, shaping the material and helping the people and technology involved deliver it convincingly.

Based in the UK and France, Jack works with artists and creative teams internationally, both on site and remotely.

From percussion to a wider musical practice

Born in Staffordshire, Jack moved to Normandy at the age of six. Music quickly became central to his life, beginning with percussion and developing into a much broader interest in performance, composition, arrangement and recording.

At fourteen, Jack was awarded first prize at the Concours International de Percussions de Cannes. In 2014, he also won the Petites Mains Symphoniques competition. Those early experiences gave him the opportunity to perform at a high level while broadening his understanding of the creative and professional paths within music.

Training and development

In 2016, Jack joined the Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood. Over three years, he completed a double diploma and graduated in 2019 with a degree in Musicology.

That training strengthened his foundations as a performer while giving him the space to develop as an arranger, writer and musical collaborator. It also reinforced an approach that still shapes his work: listen closely, understand the purpose of the music and make every decision serve it.

Across stage and studio

Since then, Jack’s work has taken him through live shows, tours, recording sessions, rehearsal rooms and production projects. Depending on the brief, he may be performing, writing, arranging, producing, directing a band, preparing a playback system or engineering the result.

The roles are different, but the objective is consistent: to understand what the artist or project is trying to communicate and help deliver it with musical clarity, preparation and attention to detail.

Selected collaborations

Jack’s professional work has included projects and performances with Yseult, Randy Brecker, Hugues Aufray, Keyon Harrold, Didier Lockwood and Amaury Vassili.

Building independent creative spaces

In 2014, at the age of sixteen, Jack co-founded BAY Custom Drums with his family. In 2019, he founded BAY Custom Studios. Both projects grew from the same interest in how instruments, spaces and technical choices can support the people making the music.

Today, BAY Custom Studios handles complete recording, production, mixing and mastering projects, while this website is the place to work with Jack directly as a musician, writer, producer, musical director, programmer or engineer.

Teaching and shared knowledge

Alongside his professional work, Jack has taught drums, keyboards and music production through private tuition and in a number of educational settings. He continues to consider selected lessons, workshops and masterclasses where the subject and format are a good fit.

Jack works in English or French and is particularly interested in teaching that connects technique with real creative or professional situations.
